Australia has some of the most beautiful destinations and breathtaking views in the world, making it easy to plan a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway. Best of all, travelling with a caravan means you can access some hard-to-reach places. Here are some Valentine’s Day ideas for romantic retreats to share with your loved one this year.

Indulge in fine food and wine

Wining and dining takes on another dimension when you’re visiting the area where the produce is actually grown. Spend the day sampling at the cellar door or farm gate, or take the very best back with you for an intimate campfire meal.

  • In Victoria, head to the Yarra Valley or the North East Valley, where you can sample wines at the cellar door and dine on local produce, including chestnuts, asparagus, olives, citrus, mustards, breads and berries.
  • WA’s Margaret River region is one of Australia’s best-known wine regions. While you’re there, indulge in some caught-that-day seafood, farm-fresh and artisan produce, and craft beers and cider.
  • A couple of hours drive north of Sydney, the Hunter Valley has been home to farms and vineyards since the early 1800s. Take your loved one ballooning, horseriding or wandering through the Hunter Valley Gardens, then wind up the day at one of the many vineyards.
  • In South Australia, consider enrolling in a masterclass at a gourmet cooking school, or park the caravan for the day and take a chauffeured tour of the Barossa Valley’s world-famous wineries.

Fall in love

Waterfalls have long been synonymous with romance and splendour, and Aussie romantics will find the most gorgeous waterfalls in northern Queensland. Falling an impressive 268 metres, Wallaman Falls in Girringun National Park can be viewed from across the gorge or via a misty, hour-long walk to its base. The falls are situated 51km southwest of Ingham, in the midst of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

Relax in nature’s hot tub

Sharing a hot tub or sauna just can’t compete with relaxing in one of Australia’s many hot springs. Some of the most romantic include Mataranka Thermal Pools in the Northern Territory’s Elsey National Park, and the extensive Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs complex near Melbourne.

Enjoy an endless horizon

The impossibly white sands, crystal-clear blue waters and cloudless sunny skies of the Whitsundays are bound to release any tensions and worries. There’s no shortage of caravan parks and camping grounds, so you can choose to stay close to restaurants and bars, or disappear into your own patch of paradise along the coastline. When you live in this wonderful country of ours, you can find romantic destinations anywhere and everywhere. Head out into nature, park the caravan, grab some snacks and rugs, light a fire (if allowed), then snuggle up and enjoy a glorious evening spent under a blanket of stars.
